The lever that controls the damper is right next to the pipe. No room is allowed for insulation to cover the pipe. The lever should have a shaft that extends about 2" beyond the pipe so insulation can be added around the pipe. Whoever designed this was rather ignorant of how insulation is normally installed around the pipe.

This a manual damper to adjust airflow. The handle can be a little hard to move. Theres no bearings, bushings or greaseon any of the rotating parts. The rotating flap does seal the whole inside so you will have leakage. Not for range hood use.
